SAINT PATRICK

On the eve of St. Patrick's feastday, I ponder on the man that he was and the great interest he had in the people of Ireland.

Patrick was not an Irish man. He was brought to Ireland and treated as a slave. He suffered because of us. Yet, when he was a free man, he chose to suffer for us. He came back to Ireland as a willing 'slave', spending the rest of his life here in Ireland.

The love that God gave to him for the Irish people drove him to care deeply for us. He had a passion to share his faith, his belief in the true God, with us. This he did, no matter what it cost him.

No wonder the people of Ireland love St. Patrick. He became our spiritual father, guiding us towards a life of compassion and love.

May we always live by the high standard of faith that Patrick shared with us.

Hail glorious St. Patrick!
